Batman’s full thread has been released, listen now
Batman fans may have to wait a long time before seeing the latest incarnation of the Caped Crusader on the big screen, but for now, you can at least listen to the film’s official theme. The Batman theme song by Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino has been released online by Warner Bros. Water Tower Records, which you can listen to below.
Elements of the soundtrack have been used in the movie’s previous trailers, especially the dark and ominous sections that use deeper piano notes and sweeping orchestral sounds, but parts of the track sound surprisingly lighter and hopeful. As director Matt Reeves says, Giacchino’s theme was written long before filming began, and Reeves first heard it during his relationship with Robert Paddin Sen before meeting for a screen test.
In a 2020 interview with Collider, Giacchino talked about the origins of the theme. “Matt and I talked for a long time, and obviously last year, after reading the script, I remember sitting down and saying ‘oh, I have an idea, I have an idea’ and then I wrote that trailer, “Giacchino said. “It was just a demo version of it, it wasn’t even done with an orchestra or anything, so he used it in every presentation at Warner Bros. He would just leave it behind and be like, ‘Ok Well, here’s the costumes,’ and then you’d hear ‘the music is coming,’ and then you’d hear it. So when it came time to release the trailer, he was like, ‘Okay, we’ve got to put it on the music.'”
In other Batman news, the film’s run time has been confirmed at 167 minutes, and that’s not even including the credits. You can bring the kids though, as this movie is rated PG-13 and Paired with Oreo cookies in case anyone tastes sweet justice.
The film, which opens March 4, stars Robert Pattinson as Batman and Bruce Wayne, Zoe Kravitz as Selena Kyle, and Andy Serkis as Alfred De Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Colin Farrell as Oswald Copperport.
