Battlefield 2042’s voice chat finally goes live next month
The new Battlefield 2042 update 3.3 was released earlier today with several fixes and changes to multiplayer, not the least of which is the addition of a long-delayed scoreboard. Additionally, the team has confirmed that another highly anticipated feature will be coming in “early April” – Battlefield 2042’s squad voice chat.
It hasn’t been the smoothest few months for the latest Battlefield game. In addition to complaints about performance issues and delays in the game’s first season, some players also raised concerns about the lack of basic features like scoreboards and voice chat. PCGamesN’s own review emphasized that Battlefield 2042 is “many updates away from reaching its full potential.”
The scoreboard is now in the game, and developer Ripple Effect says the “VOIP feature for squads” will come in Battlefield 2042 update 3.4. In today’s updated patch notes, the team said “the next update is currently scheduled to arrive in early April” and will include “more changes and fixes” in addition to voice chat.
Ripple Effects clarified that today’s release of the scoreboard is just the “first version” of the feature, with further iterations to follow in subsequent updates. For example, next month’s update will add scoreboards that will be available on round end screens.
Next month’s update will also focus on “balance changes to weapons on vehicles” such as the MC5 Bolte, as well as “overhauling the attachment behavior of infantry weapons”.
