Blizzard announces its next PC and console game, set in an ‘entirely new universe’
Blizzard has announced that a new PC and console survival game is in development, and it will be set in an “entirely new universe.” Aside from these few details and some small concept art, the information about the game is simple. It also looks like it’s in the early stages of development, as today’s announcement comes with a hiring push for the project.
“Blizzard is working on our next mission,” the company said in the announcement. “We’re on a journey to a whole new universe, home to a brand new survival game for PC and consoles. A place full of heroes we haven’t seen, stories we haven’t told, and adventures we haven’t experienced. Vast A realm of possibilities waiting to be explored.”
Job listings for level designers at various levels of seniority call for someone who can create “the immersive and explorable environments you’re likely to find in a AAA game” and someone who can demonstrate “proficiency in the level design process, including but not limited to, level Process, engagement design, pacing, storytelling, PVP, and more.” Another server engineer listing shows an online component, which should come as no surprise for Blizzard games.
This is the company’s first major gaming announcement in a while, and its first since Microsoft announced its intention to acquire Activision Blizzard. Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra teased some “exciting” announcements last week, and it looks like this is a first.
