Cities: Skylines gets free update with Airports DLC
The arrival of the Airports DLC for Cities: Skylines comes just in time for a nice update to the city builder’s core game. The free update adds some AI tweaks and new customization options, and all Cities: Skylines players will be welcome, whether or not they’ve purchased the new DLC.
First, the aircraft AI has been completely updated, improving the aircraft behavior in the base game. You should no longer see planes circling endlessly over your city, carrying more passengers with each trip. This applies to any public transit vehicle arriving from outside your city: you’ll see less frequent trips, but more passengers per trip.
Everyone will also see some new customization options. You will be able to replace the trees on the road for the first time, just select a tree in the landscaping menu and click on the tree-lined road segment you want to use that tree instead of the default tree. That way, you can swap out the small maple for the tall palm. Replacing a tree is always free, as the cost of the tree is factored into the cost of the road where the tree appears.

You’ll also have more trees to choose from, as the patch adds 14 new landscape assets from Prolific City: Skyline Modifier MrMaison.
And more: the update will allow you to set up custom vehicles for each service building in your city. There is a new button in the building information panel where you can choose from any custom vehicle model you want to use, or you can set it to random.
Another nice new feature in the patch is a new system for buying and selling landscaping soil. If you want to level an area or do other extensive landscaping, you don’t have to dig large pits or build large mounds – now you can buy any extra soil you need, and sell any extra soil.
Cities: Skylines Airports DLC will arrive on January 25th, along with a free patch.
