Don’t expect to play Hogwarts Legends Quidditch
Don’t expect to play any Hogwarts Legends Quidditch matches when RPG games arrive this holiday season. The ambitious Harry Potter RPG prequel was re-revealed this week, but despite its broomstick abilities, it looks like the Golden Snitch must now stay uncaught.
Quidditch is a central part of the Harry Potter universe, but it doesn’t appear very often in the various fantasy games based on the “Witcher World” series – except, of course, the Quidditch World Cup in 2003, which surprises me personally computer.
Hogwarts Legacy may be a massive open-world game set in and around the aptly named school, and there are plenty of events to take part in, but it doesn’t look like the premier sports of the wizarding world will be one of them. There’s no mention of it in the extensive gameplay reveal, and the official FAQ pretty much nails the nail in the coffin – the broom flies in, but Quidditch probably won’t.
The FAQ states that players can travel around the world on a broom, and at Hogwarts they can take part in “broom races” and take flight lessons that sound like tutorials. Quidditch pitches exist – see around 4:21 in the trailer below – but the sport itself seems unlikely to be playable.
We’ve reached out to Warner Bros. Games, just in case, and will update this article if we hear back.
According to the official FAQ, the developers noted: “JK Rowling was not directly involved in the creation of the game, however, her extraordinary work is the foundation of all projects in the Wizarding World. This is not a new JK Rowling story.”
By the way, the National Center for Transgender Equality in the US and Mermaid in the UK are excellent charities.
