Dying Light 2 DLC will be big and ‘unexpected’

The first part of the Dying Light 2 DLC has begun to arrive, but there’s more to come. Techland’s developers have committed to a five-year roadmap for free and paid content, but we don’t yet know what form these larger content releases will take. It seems safe to expect something as big as The following – but otherwise, the developers want to break your expectations,
Lead designer Tymon Smektała told us in an interview at GDC that the scale of the Dying Light 2 DLC will be “similar” to the first game. “You can certainly expect this game to take you into new environments and bring new challenges to traverse. And I think you should also expect — maybe that’s a silly phrase — but expect the unexpected.
“That’s what we want to do with post-launch support. We want to surprise people. We want to create an emotional anticipation for our players. “What are they going to drop next?” “The plan is to not make the content too formulaic. The idea is that every new one should surprise you, it should feel fresh, it should feel fresh because we think that’s the way to engage players.”
“There’s actually a lot of speculation online about what’s going to happen next, what we’re going to release, what the DLC is going to be. No one guesses what we hope to do,” Smektała said.
The first major story DLC for Dying Light 2 is due to launch in June, with at least one major story expansion planned for the future. “We’ll see how we can do more work later,” Smektała said. “But for now, that’s what we’re thinking: Surprise players and give them content they didn’t expect, but that also applies to Dying Light 2.”
