Dying Light 2 has a free upgrade on PS5/Xbox Series X
Ahead of the game’s February release, Techland has now clarified more key details about Dying Light 2’s release, including how to upgrade from one console to another, cross-play support and co-op information.
Starting with the upgrade path, everyone who buys Dying Light 2 on PS4 can upgrade to the PS5 version for free. Additionally, Dying Light 2 supports Microsoft’s Smart Delivery platform, which means those who buy the game on Xbox One can get it for free on Series X|S.
In not-so-good news, Techland announced that cross-platform and cross-generation co-op play would not be supported at the console’s launch. However, cross-play between users on Steam and the PC version of the Epic Games Store will be available from day one.
Techland noted in its announcement that it plans to support Dying Light 2 for the next five years, so fans can “look forward to a lot of exciting new content and expansions.” However, it remains to be seen whether cross-platform and cross-generational collaboration will be added.
Finally, Techland clarified some other key details, such as how Dying Light 2 will be played from start to finish in co-op, and how “session guests” who play co-op will keep their acquired items and player progress for themselves. Additionally, “important choices” in Dying Light 2’s story will be made by all players through a cooperative voting system. However, the moderator has the final say.
Dying Light 2 will be released on February 4 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a cloud-enabled Switch version coming within six months. Recently, Techland confirmed that the game’s script is over 350,000 words, in case you’re interested.
