EA stops sales in Russia, including FIFA Ultimate Team

Shortly after Microsoft stopped selling products, including games, in Russia, EA followed suit. EA said it would suspend sales of its games and content in Russia and Belarus, which would include sales of “virtual currency bundles” that would also cut off the company’s lucrative FIFA Ultimate Team business in the region.
As EA explained in the announcement: “Our games and content will no longer be available for purchase on our Origin storefront in Russia or in the EA app, including through the in-game store.” “We are also working with our platform partners. , remove our games from their store, and stop selling new game content in the region.”
EA previously announced that Russian teams will be removed from its current FIFA and NHL competitions as those teams are suspended from the real-world sports organizations represented in the competition. EA said it will continue to evaluate “other areas of our game and operations and will update it with any further action”.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Mikhailo Fedorov called on all game developers around the world to suspend access to Russian players. As Fedorov explained in the open letter, it is hoped that by cutting the region off from global goods and services, Russian civilians will put more pressure on their government to end the invasion.

“We continue to be appalled by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and join numerous voices around the world calling for peace and an end to the invasion,” EA said in today’s announcement. “We stand with the people of Ukraine. Our primary concern is the continued safety of those in the region, especially the safety of colleagues and partners, and we are seeking to understand how we can help them further beyond the programs we have already implemented.”
