Factorio tops 3.1 million sales in 6 years
It’s been six years since the original Factory Alien was released on Steam Early Access, and now the developer of one of the best management games on PC has revealed that Factory Alien has already sold over 3 million copies at the time – despite the team’s claims “Never really engaged in a sale or bundling”.
The PC strategy game launched in Early Access on February 25, 2016, following a successful Indiegogo campaign in 2013 and a very early version sold through developer Wube Software’s website. Factorio’s official release date for Early Access on Steam is August 14, 2020 – which has actually been brought forward to avoid competing with Cyberpunk 2077, although it will eventually be pushed back to December.
So yesterday was Factory Alien’s sixth anniversary, and Wube Software released a new blog post about the game’s update – while confirming that, in addition to the big day, Factory Alien “has also recently surpassed 3 million in total sales. — and at this point, we even passed 3.1 million — so that’s a milestone.”
“It’s great for us that the game is still on sale year after year,” the developer added, “even though we’ve never been involved in a sale or bundle.” Completely via SteamDB, watch It’s true that Factory Alien was never sold on Steam — in fact, it went up in price by more than 25% around 2018, and it never looked back.
The 3.1 million sales are really impressive, especially in this context, and with a massive new expansion at some point, those sales are likely to soar again.
