valve steam deck finally came out obviously Gabe Newell loves playing Final Fantasy XIV on the system.Well, Valve’s big boss can’t do that right now because of the latest 6.08 update for one of them The best MMOs on PC Causes Final Fantasy XIV to fail to launch on portable devices gaming computer.

As reported by user Dreamboum on ResetEra and verified by PCGamesN, you can’t currently launch Final Fantasy XIV on the Steam deck – it just hangs on the game’s logo and can’t go any further. As we reported last month, this appears to be related to Square Enix’s forced Steam account binding.

To “further enhance account security and strengthen fraud prevention measures,” Final Fantasy XIV now links players’ Square Enix accounts with their Steam accounts. The update forced players on Steam to have Valve’s client run with Final Fantasy XIV — which in itself caused enough problems — but the new launcher appears to be completely incompatible with Steam Deck.

It’s worth mentioning that although Gabe Newell is the cheerleader for Final Fantasy XIV on Steam, the MMO is officially marked as “unsupported” to play on Valve’s portable system. According to ResetEra users, the non-Steam version of Final Fantasy XIV will still work on the Steam deck, but everyone else can only hope for another update or fix – maybe even 6.1 next month.

Still, over 1,000 games are now marked as “Verified” or “Playable” on the Steam platform, including previously unsupported titles such as Apex Legends.
