FFXIV villains will be more than just bigger gods after Endwalker

FFXIV’s villains are a very diverse group, but with the storytelling that wraps up a decade in Endwalker, the stakes have reached reality-shattering heights. The developers behind the MMORPG have hinted at a mild story reset after Endwalker, but in a new interview, director and producer Naoki Yoshida confirms we shouldn’t expect an immediate return to fighting bigger and badder gods .
In a Famitsu interview, Yoshida mentioned that previous Final Fantasy games have pitted players against the anthropomorphism of the Void itself. However, as Gematsu translates, Yoshida “doesn’t think it’s a good idea to keep expanding the story and developing stronger bosses”.
As noted in Field Letter 69, FFXIV’s next patch is titled Newfound Adventure, hinting that we’ll be returning to the more traditional adventurer role that the player character begins in Reborn. Writer Natsuko Ishikawa says the developers haven’t quite finished Endwalker’s plot, however, a “small-scale”, “supplemental” story will explore some of the expansion’s events in more detail.
Patch 6.1 will be released in April, and this will be the first time we get a proper look at the post-Endwalker story.
