Fortnite devs apologize for new free pickaxe and XP boost

Did you try to log into Fortnite in late December and find you can’t log in? you’re not alone. Epic’s wildly popular battle royale game suffered considerable downtime over the holidays, and the developers have an apology in mind — when it comes to getting you free stuff. If you log in at any time during Winterfest, you’ll get a new pickaxe, and this weekend will have some big XP boosts to help make up for lost time.
“Thank you all for your patience during the December login issue,” Epic said in a tweet, “We’ll be open from January 7th at 4pm PST/7pm EST or January 8th Start a Power Leveling weekend at midnight GMT”. The XP boost will continue until January 10 at 4AM PST/7AM EST/12PM GMT.
If you log in during Winterfest, you can also get the Crescent Mushroom Pickaxe for free before it hits the Item Shop. This seems like the item we all should get as a last Winterfest gift, and it’s been lingering for days as an unobtainable notification in the main menu.
