With Batman in theaters within a month, the caped crusader’s next film is excitingly drawing to a close. To further fuel anticipation, Warner Bros. Water Tower Music. The internal music label has released the film’s official theme as The Riddler. You can listen below.
This new track follows the recently released Batman theme, and as Eagle Ear fans have noticed, elements of the soundtrack have been used in previous trailers. As director Matt Reeves said, Composer Michael Giacchino’s theme was written long before filming beganand Reeves first heard it before he met with Robert Pattinson for a screen test.
Similar to Batman’s theme, Riddler’s theme is very interesting. The Riddler’s theme is dark, tragic, haunting and mysterious – as some have pointed out – with some subtle nods to Batman: The Animated Series. For those of you who turn the volume knob in the first place, note that at the 2:06 mark, there is an unexpected menacing leap in loudness.
Batman is 2 hours and 47 minutes long and features Pattinson as Batman and Bruce Wayne, Zoe Kravitz as Selena Kyle, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Peng Niwas, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobbles. There will also be two Batman spinoffs, one of which will see Farrell reprise his role as Penguin. Reeves is also developing the HBO Max series, which will focus on the Gotham City Police Department.
Batman will be released on March 4th.
