Game of Thrones illustrated book spotlights Targaryens coming out this October

A new book based on George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire is in the works to coincide with the upcoming HBO spin-off “House of the Dragon,” which will premiere later this year.
Titled Rise of the Dragons, the book, an illustrated history of House Targaryen, will be the focus of the new show. The book is from Ten Speed Press, Random House.
The Rise of the Dragon features over 180 new illustrations focusing on the famous dragon family. “Rise of the Dragons chronicles the creation and rise of the Targaryen power in Westeros, covering history first told in George R. R. Martin’s epic Fire and Blood, from Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of Wess Tello to the infamous Dragon Dance – a war of bloody civilians that almost completely destroyed Targaryen rule,” reads the book’s official description.
Authors Martin, Elio M. Garcia Jr. and Linda Antonsson release Rise of the Dragon on October 25th. It is described as the first volume, which suggests there may be more installments.
HBO has yet to announce a release date for “House of the Dragon,” but the book’s release date could provide clues as to when the show will premiere.
Set hundreds of years before Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon tells a drama involving House Targaryen. “As the reign of King Viserys (Paddy Considine) draws to a close, his beloved daughter Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma Darcy) and his second wife Alison There is a brutal battle for the succession between Queen Hightor (Olivia Cooke). Her son’s throne,” reads a line in the show description. Doctor Who’s Matt Smith and Harry Potter actor Reese Evans also star in the series.
In February, Martin himself revealed that all 10 episodes of the first season had now been filmed, and the writer said he had seen the rough cut and that he “liked” what he had seen so far.
