God of War’s first day of Steam player count is just shy of Horizon Zero Dawn

God of War was one of the best games on PlayStation 4, and now it’s one of the best games on PC too. As you might expect, God of War is actually the hottest new release on Steam. It’s currently the best-selling game on the platform and has entered Steam’s 25 most popular games today. Not bad for a $50 port of a 4-year-old game, although it’s a bit lower than the last big PlayStation PC port.

As shown on SteamDB, God of War today reached a peak concurrent player count of 49,411. Horizon Zero Dawn peaked at 56,557 on launch day, so it seems that demand for Sony’s first-party games on Steam has remained constant over the past few years. (Death Stranding, a former PlayStation exclusive released by 505 Games on PC, peaked at 32,515 at launch.)

It might be tempting to compare God of War to Monster Hunter Rise, another former console exclusive that now has 109,341 players. But Monster Hunter only came out a year ago, and the hardware is much less powerful, so in this case, maybe more players are just waiting for the PC port.

The response to the Ares PC port has been solid. In addition to reviews from critics (including our own), the game has garnered thousands of Steam reviews, leaving it with a “very positive” rating.
