Gran Turismo 7 update comes back a day later, Dev apologizes

A new update for Gran Turismo 7 has been released, back online after a day of unplayability. What initially meant a two-hour maintenance period instead lasted much longer, leaving racing simulator owners inaccessible to the game, as nearly all playable events require an online connection. As for why Gran Turismo 7 has been offline for so long, the main issue boils down to a “rare issue” discovered by developer Polyphony Digital prior to the release of patch 1.07.
According to the studio in a new post on its blog, a bug prevents Gran Turismo 7 from launching properly on PS5 and PS4.
“Just before the 1.07 update was released, we discovered an issue where the game would not launch properly on production versions of PS4 and PS5 in some cases,” wrote producer Kazunori Yamauchi. “This is a rare issue that was not identified during development hardware testing or QA sessions prior to release, but in order to prioritize the safety of user-saved data, we have decided to discontinue the release of the 1.07 update and proceed with the 1.08 correction update.”
Yamauchi also talked about the recent changes to the game’s economy, with several tracks having significantly reduced credit payouts, making it harder to unlock more high-end cars. Yamauchi said a car’s pricing is “an important element that communicates its value and rarity,” and it’s important that the digital price tag reflects this.
At the same time, the studio wants to avoid a situation where viewers keep replaying certain games, and plans to roll out more content, game events and features in the future.
Like Gran Turismo Sport, Yamauchi stressed that the studio envisioned a longer shelf life for Gran Turismo 7 and urged its players to take a long-term view of the game.
