GTA Trilogy Remake gets tons of patches, focuses on texture fixes

Grand Theft Auto: Trilogy was a mess at launch, but sold like hot cakes anyway. Those who plan to wait until the post-release patch craze is over before actually playing those remastered games might want to take a second look: Rockstar just released a huge new patch for all three games that fixes a wide range of bugs, while also addressing general performance issues.

Fixes that apply to all games include “stability improvements” and collision fixes, as well as updates to texture art and “signs”, which could mean that attempts at sign improvements lead to misspelling situations such as “gearbox” becoming “bearbox” .

The patch notes are refreshing, although the vast majority of them do relate to texture tweaks. In GTA 3, other fixes include “Improved collision near SupaSave!” and a solution to an issue where some players couldn’t launch the quest Liberator.

In Sin City, expect the same long list of small tweaks (traffic lights are now on, you should now hear footsteps when using one-handed weapons). San Andreas’ “High Fade Hairstyle” has also been improved now, presumably because the newer hairstyles are so bad that there’s a mod to bring it back.

The full patch notes are on the official Rockstar site; make a cup of tea before you dive in, they’re long. Hopefully they go a long way in making these modern remakes more playable on PC so we don’t have to keep relying on older versions.
