Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the last for James Gunn
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. In an interview with Deadline this week, the director confirmed that 3 will be James Gunn’s last show with the current cast.
“This is the end for us, the last time people see this Guardians team,” Gunn said on Deadline’s Hero Nation podcast. “It’s big; it’s big and dark, and it’s not what one might expect,” Gunn said (interestingly, he said almost exactly the same thing about Suicide Squad). “I just want to stay true to the characters and the story and give people the ending they deserve. It’s always a little scary; I’m doing my best.”
“I know,” Gunn added, “that the third movie in most trilogy is terrible. Not always.”
After directing the first two Guardian films, Gunn is known for being fired from Disney for responding to old tweets that he made deliberately edgy jokes about topics like the Holocaust and pedophilia. Gunn has since apologized for the tweets, but Disney terminated his relationship with the director, leaving him in a deal with Warner Bros. to direct Suicide Squad. Disney then rehired Gunn to write and direct The Guardians. 3, and Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Edition.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released on May 5, 2023. In addition to the standard cast – Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel – the film will also star Will Poulter as Adam Warlock. Also in the film is actor Chukwudi Iwuji, who currently plays the role of Murn on Gunn’s Peacemaker series, which is currently airing new episodes on HBO Max on Thursday.
