How to Replace a PS5 Panel

Since the launch of the PS5, many people have been calling for PlayStation to release new panels in different colors. While third-party companies have released different swatches — and faced legal pressure from Sony for it — there’s no official PlayStation option. That will change when Midnight Black and Cosmic Red panels are released via PlayStation Direct later this month. We received the Midnight Black panel ahead of launch, and the process of giving your PS5 a new look should only take a few minutes.

After disconnecting the power cable from the console and removing the stand, the PS5 needs to be placed horizontally on a flat surface with the PlayStation logo in the lower left corner.

Lift and slide the corner with the PlayStation logo to remove the top plate.

It takes a little force to actually remove the top panel. You’ll need to stabilize the other side of the console with your other hand, then pull up the corner while sliding the panel to the right. Then align the new panel with the connector on the console, push it down and to the left (the exact opposite of removing it.

Once the top panel is secured, you can flip the console over. This time you want to have the disk drive in front of you and to your right. If you own a PS5 Digital, make sure the power and disc eject buttons are on the right side of the console when viewing. Removing the old panel and installing the new one is the same as the top panel, but this time you pull up the rear left corner.

Pull up and slide the left rear corner, and the console is positioned as such.

Before reconnecting the power cord and placing the PS5 back on the shelf, make sure the panel is secured. You should hear a fairly loud click when the panel is in place.

We think you still want to keep your white panels, so we recommend that you put the old panels in the protective bag that came with the panel box and close the box for storage.

The Midnight Black and Cosmic Red panels will cost $55 each and launch on PlayStation Direct on January 21st. Major retailers will start buying the panels on February 18.If you are looking for Nova Pink, Starlight Blue or Galactic Purple panels to match this Upcoming DualSense Color Trio, they will be released sometime in the first half of this year.
