League of Legends Updates nerfs Zeri Runann’s Hurricane Interaction
Riot Games has rolled out a small follow-up update to League of Legends patch 12.2 to make some balance changes to the MOBA game’s newest champion. Zaun’s Spark Zeri joined the live game last week with a patch, but so far, her interactions with key items seem to be too strong, so the studio nipped the issue in the bud.
“We just made a micro-fix to Zeri’s Hurricane interaction,” lead character designer August ‘RiotAugust’ Browning said on Twitter. “It looks very powerful.” This has to do with the hero’s interaction with the legendary item Runaan’s Hurricane, which seems to greatly boost Zeri’s strength in the Rift as it works with her ultimate Lightning Crash. “R-Chain Lightning is no longer a hit effect (meaning that Hurricane no longer applies it)”, the developers explained.
So it looks like her ultimate lightning attack is capable of doing some massive damage to multiple enemies by acting as a hit effect when paired with the item in certain builds, giving Zeri a bit of an overkill.
As pointed out by Dot Esports, Zeri’s current winrate looks pretty good at the moment, and its build depends on Trinity Force’s strong hit stats, and then Runaan’s Hurricane plays a key role. Maybe we’ll see this decline to some extent and players’ attitudes towards Zerry have changed, now that this nerf has made its way to the live game.

As for Zely’s other powerful combos, like her interaction with the Black Knife, Browning reply In this case, the blow required to fully stack the effect “is intentional,” said a fan on Twitter, adding, “BC stacks on instances of physical damage, not individual spells or attacks. ( That’s why it was so good for Darius and past versions of Lucian).”
