Lost Ark is adding servers to ease player congestion

A popular MMO is facing congestion – have you heard of it before? While Final Fantasy XIV faced its fair share of challenges after Endwalker launched, now it’s Lost Ark’s turn to deal with the growing number of players. According to SteamDB, the new PC game hit 500,000 daily concurrent players on Valve’s storefront, and that was before the free game update.
To avoid further congestion, Amazon Gaming has implemented several plans. Newcomers will not be able to create roles on servers with long queues. If you already have a role on one of the busy servers (for example, Mari, Azena, or Kadan), you can still create other roles for your roster. The developer explained that the character creation limit will likely remain the same for the foreseeable future, although Amazon Games will provide an update when it is eventually removed.
The developers also added 15 new servers ahead of the free-to-play release of Lost Ark. North America West will get one new server, North America East will get six, Central Europe will get six, and South America will get two.
However, even if you are a current player, there are some incentives for you to jump to a new server. If you redeem the Founder’s Pack before February 14th, Amazon Games is offering an “extra set of exclusive items” to everyone who purchased the Founder’s Pack. If you buy a silver, gold or platinum pack, you can even get extra crystals in the royal pack. You will be able to claim these additional rewards on the new server, but your old items will remain where you originally redeemed them.
We ourselves had a lot of fun with this one. In their ongoing Lost Ark review, Ryan Romero mentions that “gorgeous combat and clever dungeon design ensure Lost Ark is well ahead of most MMO competitors”. Neat.
