Michael Keaton will replay Batman’s Batman role on HBO Max
Warner Bros. and Michael Keaton surprised all of us when they officially announced that he would return to the DC comics world to shoot the upcoming Flash movie, but it seems that Keaton has not yet completed the role. According to “Variety” reports, Michael Keaton will also play Bruce Wayne and possibly Batman in the upcoming HBO Max Batgirl movie.
Keaton starred alongside Leslie Grace, who played the nominal role of Barbara Gordon and her Batgirl’s other self. JK Simmons will also return to his role as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Barbara Gordon’s father. He initially played this role in the Justice League in 2017 and 2021. Brandon Fraser, currently playing the robot/cliff steel in the DC HBO Max series of Doomsday Patrols, joins the cast as the arsonist villain Firefly.
Comic movies and shows are becoming more and more weird. Marvel Pictures has just launched the “Spider-Man: No Way” multiverse, and Warner Bros. will do the same with Andy Muschietti’s “The Flash”. After a long period of development, the film will be released at the end of next year. In that movie, the Flash played by Ezra Miller will also meet Batman played by Keaton and will reunite with Batman played by Ben Affleck.
Whether Keaton wears a bat costume for Batgirl is still unknown. At 70, he was at the perfect time to play Bruce Wayne, similar to the one we saw in the “Beyond Batman” animated series, with an older Bruce Wayne guiding in a futuristic Gotham Young and inexperienced Terry McGinnis. Similarly, voice actor Kevin Conroy voiced Bruce Wayne and Batman in “Batman: The Animated Series” and “Beyond Batman”, so there is a precedent for this transition.
“Batgirl” is currently in production, directed by Adil El Albi and Bilal Farah, and written by Christina Hodson. Keaton will play Bruce Wayne in the Flash on November 4, 2022.
