Microsoft has announced that it is suspending all sales of new products and services in Russia in response to the country’s invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24. Microsoft is also working with the governments of Ukraine, the U.K., the U.S., and the European Union to comply with sanctions against Russia and help maintain Ukraine’s cybersecurity, company president Brad Smith said.
“Like the rest of the world, we are shocked, outraged and saddened by the images and news from the war in Ukraine, and condemn this unwarranted, unprovoked and illegal intrusion by Russia,” Smith wrote in a post to Microsoft blog dated . March 4th.
Smith said Microsoft would “suspend sales of all new Microsoft products and services in Russia” and that since the start of the war, Microsoft had “targeted Russia’s positioning, took destructive or aggressive actions against more than 20 Ukrainian government, IT and financial sector organizations disruptive measures”. “We also acted on cyberattacks against several other civilian sites,” Smith said. “We have publicly raised our concerns that these attacks on civilians violate the Geneva Conventions.”
