Minecraft now has a fully functional keyboard

Minecraft players can’t help themselves, and lately they can’t stop – they just keep recreating things in the sandbox game. First Wordle, then Minesweeper, and now we’ve moved beyond that, with a Redditor creating an in-game keyboard that works.
That’s right, Redditor CivetKitty himself created a keyboard in Minecraft using map art and lots of commands. You can watch a video of them entering the game on the post itself, which is really impressive. Usually, just because it looks like a simple build doesn’t mean that’s the case.
A lot of custom content in Minecraft that doesn’t use mods tends to use Armor Stands to help create various effects, but that’s not the case here. Instead, as CivetKitty explains, it works by “detecting the progress of the item’s frame turning. Then I just turn the item back to its original position, and do a raycast to find exactly where you right-clicked.” It’s not a perfect method, since the hitbox of the item frame doesn’t cover the entire block, but CivetKitty also says the developers fixed this in 22w15a (the latest Minecraft snapshot).
For now, the only thing you can do with a keyboard is typing, but given how quickly things are escalating in Minecraft, we wouldn’t be too surprised to see players download it and then program it in the future. Imagine playing Minecraft in Minecraft and then building a keyboard in it to program Minecraft again. Just try to ignore the multiple levels of new logic and rules needed to make this kind of work work.
