Moon Knight director slams Wonder Woman’s 1984 Egyptian sequence
Mohammad Diab, director of the upcoming Marvel miniseries “Moon Knight,” detailed in a recent interview his disappointment at the standard Western movies are showing Egypt. Ahead of Moon Knight’s debut on March 30, Diab spoke to SFX Magazine about how he hopes Moon Knight can help change the way Hollywood thinks about Egypt.
“I remember watching Wonder Woman in 1984 and there was a big segment in Egypt, which was a shame for us,” Diab said. “You have a chief – that doesn’t make any sense to us. Egypt looks like a medieval country. It looks like a desert.”
Adding to his debut in the 2010 political thriller Cairo 678, Diab added: “You never see Cairo. You always see Jordan shooting for Cairo, Morocco shooting for Cairo Guns, sometimes Spain shoots for Cairo. That really angered us.”
In Moon Knight, Diab has many opportunities to make Egyptian culture better. The series transports viewers into the world of Marc Spector, a man with dissociative identity disorder who suddenly finds himself possessing the powers of the Egyptian god Khonshu. In the comics, the legends of ancient Egypt play an important role. The six-episode Disney+ series will premiere on March 30 and run through May 4.
However, it should also be mentioned in this context that Isaac was slightly affected by his character’s strange British accent.Mark’s other character is a long-suffering Brit named Stephen Grant – as Isaac told Radio Times, Marvel “has no idea what the hell I’m doing. [with the accent], and they’re not at all sure it’s going to work…in the end I’m glad we did because everyone said it kind of made the show successful. “
