Oculus Quest 2 may soon get body tracking support

The Oculus Quest 2 is undoubtedly one of the best VR headsets on the market, but its tracking capabilities are limited to head and hand movements. However, this may change in the near future after Meta updates the Quest 2 developer documentation.

Changes made to the Unity development assets for Quest 2 include a screenshot of the Oculus SDK with a drop-down menu for Body Tracking Support. We say “contains” because Meta pulls images quickly, but not until UploadVR is able to grab a copy. It’s unclear how body tracking will be implemented on the Quest 2, as the headset’s downward-facing camera is unlikely to do the job.

This could indicate that the company plans to bring this feature to its upcoming Project Cambria or Oculus Quest 3 headsets. Alternatively, Meta could combine its own rival with Vive Tracker 3.0 as part of its plans to dominate the Metaverse and gaming VR spaces.

Since full-body tracking is coming to Oculus Quest 2, you’re welcome, and the latest Steam hardware survey shows that the lack of the feature hasn’t affected its popularity.

That said, the growing popularity of VR has also led to an increase in “gorilla arm” injuries. So, you better manage your time with the best VR games lest you hope to suffer a shoulder strain.
