Perfect DnD RPG thanks to Solasta: Lost Valley
If there’s one feature the Solasta community has been clamoring for since the Dungeon Creator DLC dropped last year, it’s multiplayer. With the Lost Valley DLC, the ability to play this DnD RPG with a group of friends for the closest tabletop gaming experience is finally here. After a few hours of multiplayer and a new campaign, I can confidently say this is the best Solasta.
mine multiplayer lost valley Discussions with the developers at Tactical Adventures focused on two encounters, one of which featured a new enemy type, the Elf Dryad. Co-op combat is functionally no different than single-player, except that you can’t make decisions for other characters. However, you can see what they’re thinking about thanks to a tooltip that shows what they’re hovering over or what menu they’re digging into, but the decision is always theirs.
Communication between our parties has been solid since we’ve had voice calls, but without native voice or text chat this mystery could be even more important. TA would like to add a ping system so you can signal your intentions to other players, but without strong in-game communication you’re really just relying on trust or 3rd party programs like Discord. The decision was made out of necessity, community lead Emile Zhang told us – there were so many restrictions associated with console certification that the studio had to ignore the feature entirely.
There’s also no matchmaking in co-op Solasta, which means you’ll need to come to the lobby with your own pre-made party, open the lobby randomly (which is chaos), or venture into Discords or Reddit to find members to pick-and-play. As Zhang puts it, this is a very “Warcraft 3 custom server” approach.The good thing about all this is Very Reminiscent of old-fashioned DnD, your playgroup is either made up of close-knit friends or ever-shifting relative strangers united by common interests.
You’ll be able to cooperate from start to finish in any of the new and original campaigns, like the base crown of the Magister story. Custom Events are adventures made up of several custom maps in Dungeon Creator that can also be played in co-op, so one can still create a tabletop-style amusement park to trap their friends despite no real GM characters exist.
Speaking of being a good friend, the DLC goodies sync with the game’s console players. So if the host has all the DLC, the players who are playing with them in their session can access all of that content as long as they are playing together.
The Lost Valley campaign itself features around 20 hours of fresh adventures to throw your favorite characters into it from level 1, especially with the addition of 9 new subclasses that add a lot of extra layers as you hone your character builds . For example, the new Swift Blade subclass makes my rangers stronger when fighting with a weapon in each hand, giving them extra protection in close quarters fights, letting them slide in and out in combat will not be impacted.
Aside from the new subclasses, locations, and enemies, Lost Valley is a very different type of adventure. In this story, your party is trapped in an isolated valley ruled by a charismatic tyrant, with the ultimate goal of finding a way home. After an exhibition-filled opening hour, the remaining campaign is as non-linear and sprawling as the best RPGs, especially as you start interacting with the various factions of the valley, each of them vying for control and needing yours Help to secure it.
Multiplayer makes the prospect of solving a tricky main campaign less daunting
Each faction, like Rebellion, can help you achieve your goals in different ways, as long as you don’t mind doing their dirty work, and many of them are directly opposed, so you’ll have to choose your allegiances carefully.
There are more opportunities to move away from the critical path and into spontaneous adventures. A lot of times I find myself just picking a direction and seeing which rocks I can roll over. This may seem rudimentary by open-world gaming standards, but it’s a huge change from the underground range that makes up most Solasta adventures.
It’s also designed to take advantage of some of the RPG’s underutilized mechanics, such as interpreting foreign languages - I’ve cast the understand language spell twice in a few hours of gameplay, and I haven’t used it all at 20 – The Magister’s Crown runs for an hour.
If you’ve been waiting to join Solasta, now is the perfect time to jump. Multiplayer makes the prospect of tackling a tricky main campaign less daunting, and getting teams together to play in community-created adventures is a great game night activity. For those already invested and looking for more, the open-ended structure of the Lost Valley event allows you to dig deep into your spellbook and find truly unique solutions that combine the main game’s dungeon-crawling experience with the creativity it encourages Power into desktop inspiration.
