Peter Dinklage thinks House of the Dragon shouldn’t "rebuild" game of Thrones

HBO’s Game of Thrones wrapped up in 2019 — before the pandemic started — and actor Peter Dinklage is still thinking about the series and its legacy. In a recent podcast interview, Dinklage told comedian and host Mark Malone that he has mixed feelings about the upcoming “House of the Dragon” prequel series and hopes it won’t be safe.

“I have an opinion,” Dinklage told Malone on his show WTF via a transcript provided by The Hollywood Reporter. “I think it’s going to be a really good show. Its directors and producers work on our show, and I think it’s going to be really good. But, they took the plunge on our show, HBO, and they did it. It’s been a slow start, but why aren’t they doing it anymore? It’s not a risk. It’s a proof that it works.

That sentiment echoes Dinklage’s stance shared with The Independent earlier this month, saying he believes “cheating” the success of “Dragon House” is “not an attempt to recreate Game of Thrones.” In the same post, Dinklage also talked about his excitement about watching House of the Dragon as a fan who didn’t know what to expect.

“House of the Dragon” is scheduled to premiere on HBO this year, but a specific release date has not been announced. Before that, George RR Martin reviewed House of the Dragon, saying that he watched the rough cut of the first episode and was impressed. “It’s dark, it’s powerful, it’s visceral … just like I love my epic fantasies,” he said.
