PS5 exclusive Final Fantasy XVI’s next major reveal is coming spring of 2022, development is delayed
Final Fantasy XVI producer Yoshida Naoki said that the next major release of the game will be in the spring of 2022. Yoshida originally stated that it would provide more information later this year, but due to the complications of COVID-19, the development of the game has been delayed for nearly half a year.
The development team is composed of employees from all over the world. In order to offset the impact of COVID-19, employees have to be dispersed and work from home. “Unfortunately, this hindered communication in the Tokyo office, which in turn caused our outsourcing partners to delay or cancel asset delivery in extreme cases,” Yoshida explained.
Despite these challenges, Yoshida hopes that they can minimize their impact in the new year. The team is working on improving the quality of graphics resources, improving combat mechanisms, enriching individual battles, modifying cutscenes, and increasing overall graphics optimization.
The goal now is to give the team as much hands-on time as possible in Final Fantasy XVI so that it can be fully improved upon release. You can read Yoshida’s full statement below.
Little is known about Final Fantasy XVI, but we do know the names of three characters: Clive, Joshua, and Jill. It has also proven to be more action-oriented. The game did not appear at the Tokyo Game Show in September last year, but by then the story was complete and the English dubbing was almost complete.
Final Fantasy XVI will be exclusively launched as a limited-time console on PlayStation 5. Other platforms have not yet been announced.
