Rainbow Six Siege disruption caused by Ubisoft hack

For a small window last night, playing Rainbow Six Siege – or pretty much any Ubisoft multiplayer game – with your buddies was nearly impossible, as the friends list refused to load due to a server downgrade. It may sound like a familiar story to returning players, but it’s not your ordinary tech quibble. Instead, Ubisoft pointed to a “cybersecurity incident” that caused the outage.

It’s hard to know the extent of the hack, as Ubisoft did not elaborate and its IT team is “cooperating with leading external experts to investigate the issue.” You can rest assured, however, that your account details should be safe, as the company says there is currently “no evidence that any player’s personal information was accessed or exposed as a byproduct of this incident”.

However, it’s worth making sure you have two-factor authentication (2FA) turned on and changing your password just in case. Even better, you can arm yourself with a trustworthy password manager to protect all your accounts, considering cyber attacks are a dime a dozen in this day and age.

All Ubisoft services should be backed up and running as expected. Hopefully we’ll learn more about what’s going on in the near future. May our games be uninterrupted and password safe.
