Shadow Warrior 3 will be a PlayStation Now game when it launches on March 1.
The news was shared with little fanfare via a PlayStation blog post, but it’s actually a fairly significant step for PlayStation Now into uncharted territory, as Shadow Warrior 3 will be the first day of Sony’s streaming service’s launch of the game.
It’s certainly a great opportunity for subscribers to play Shadow Warrior 3 for free, and given recent reports that Sony is working on a new service — codenamed Spartacus — to compete with Xbox Game Pass, it’s not Totally unusual move by Sony. There’s a good chance the company is testing day-one release waters with Shadow Warrior 3 before rolling out more substantial plans.
Sony hasn’t officially announced Project Spartacus, but it’s expected to be revealed in or before spring 2022, and it’s said to feature multiple tiers, including one that provides access to a backwards-compatible catalog of PS1, PS2, and PS3 games. Currently, PlayStation Now costs $60 a year and allows users to stream a range of games from fairly old to relatively new.
Shadow Warrior 3 launches March 1 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
