Terraria is almost fully optimized for Valve’s Steam deck

Valve made a huge commitment to its Steam Deck compatibility ahead of its release next month, but a large part of the blame still rests with the game developers. Luckily, Re-Logic is working hard to get Terraria: Journey’s End running smoothly on portable gaming PCs, and shows “optimization nearly complete” on their monthly Game Status blog.

It’s not known when the update will be available to download, but soon the game will receive a shiny verification badge, as the developer says it should be “ready in advance” for its Steam deck release date in late February. Since its main purpose is to enhance the Steam deck experience, there isn’t much to do for players on other platforms other than a few bug fixes – which is by no means something to scoff at, but given the game’s stability, There is nothing to say anymore.

This should hopefully be the same as the PS Vita version, which hasn’t been loved since 2016 and lacks the Journey’s End update.

Don’t worry if you can’t justify the cost of a new handheld, though, because you can get a similar experience when pairing a compatible smartphone with the best iOS or Android controller.

Terraria is currently 50% off during the Steam Lunar New Year sale, bringing the sandbox game down to $4.99/£3.49 per USB, or $14.99/£11.49 for four.
