Bethesda has announced that it will be shutting down its PC storefront, the Bethesda.net Launcher, later this year. In a blog post, the company thanked fans for their support and assured them they would not lose the game.

Anyone who owns a game through the Bethesda.net Launcher will be able to migrate the game along with any funds in their wallet to Steam starting in April. Most games also transfer saves automatically, but some require manual transfers and don’t support a game at all, Bethesda said. Additionally, the company clarified that all Bethesda.net accounts are still accessible.

All games will be playable through the Bethesda.net Launcher until May, but Bethesda recommends players begin the process of migrating to Steam in April.

Regarding game progression and save transfers, Bethesda says this should be pretty straightforward in most cases, and should work for most games. However, Wolfenstein: Young Blood’s progression and preservation won’t carry over to Steam.

“Some saves are transferred automatically, but some require you to manually copy them to your Steam folder. We will provide more information on manual transfer of saves soon. For now, we expect almost all save progress to be transferred automatically or manually Except for Wolfenstein: Youngblood, which is currently not transferable,” Bethesda said.

With Fallout 76 in particular, Bethesda said fans don’t have to worry about losing anything. “We’re taking every precaution to make sure your Fallout 76 characters, progression, atoms, season progression, cosmetics, rewards, your friends list, and even the well-kept pies you’ve been stocking up on, are with you Embark on this journey,” it said. “Also, your Bethesda.net account will still be accessible on our site, and you will still use it to log in and play Fallout 76.”

Bethesda also mentioned that Fallout 1st memberships will remain active after the Steam migration. However, memberships don’t auto-renew once they’re transferred to Steam, so players will need to re-subscribe via Steam if they want to.

Bethesda further clarified that save and progress transfers are only available on Steam, not other PC stores, and cannot be transferred to console platforms.

Bethesda did not provide a reason for closing the Bethesda.net launcher.
