If you follow the Steam charts or any number of YouTubers focused on highlighting indie games, you’ve probably seen a little thing called Vampire Survivors. Billed as a “gothic horror casual game” that lets you “become bullet hell,” the simple charm of vampire survivors is quickly propelling it beyond hit status.
Vampire Survivors is a run-based twin-stick shooter that actually only has one stick. You move your character manually, but your attacks are all automatic. Each character has their own starting abilities, such as a whip that swings in the direction you’re facing, or a magic projectile that fires in the direction of nearby enemies.
Each enemy drops experience gems when they die, so you’ll have to make your way through the horde while picking up the remains. Every time you level up – a process that starts in seconds – you get a new weapon or upgrade. Maybe your whip can now fire in both directions, or maybe you fire multiple magic bullets at once.
Then, presumably, you get whatever is described in this trailer.
Vampire Survivor is available in Early Access on Steam for just $2.99/£2.09/€2.39, with a free browser version available on Itch.io.
