The Sims 4 Drop Surprise Neighborhood Story Update

As Eurogamer reports, a surprising new update dramatically updates how Neighborhood Stories work in The Sims 4. The feature, which appeared in previous Sims games, allows Sims in inactive households to live autonomously and make major changes, including having or adopting children, changing careers, moving houses, and even dying in accidents.
The feature was soft-launched last November, with an early version of Community Stories allowing neighboring Sims to change their lives, but only if the player first agreed or initiated the change. The new update gives inactive households full autonomy, although it can be customized for players who prefer to have more control over their community.
The new feature is highly customizable, meaning you can still allow Neighbor Sims to make some changes to their lives, but turn off community story options, such as an accidental death or moving out that could completely change the community. If players want to micromanage the lives of their neighbors, they can even choose to configure these settings on a house-by-house basis. Players who like the game can also turn off the new features completely and continue to play as usual.
Players will now be able to see updates to their Neighborhood stories from any mailbox, even if their interactions with their Neighbors aren’t enough to see the results of their newfound freedom. The blog post detailing these changes encourages players to check for these updates and use the information contained in them to visit the Neighborhood and check out any changes that are taking place.
