The Terran of Galactic Civilization IV is a faction of two halves

We’re back with another Galactic Civilization IV civilization preview, and this time we’re looking at the Terran. Every space 4X game has some kind of human simulation, or vision of a future Earth when we step into space. Due to Galactic Civilization IV’s canon storyline, the strategy game’s fourth entry divides humanity into two distinct factions. Right now the games are in beta, and you can try them out for yourself by pre-ordering today.

The Terran Alliance has appeared in all galactic civilization games to date, and has been portrayed as flexible, lovable, and innovative. Legend has it that humans were the first species to invent faster-than-light technology, which they then spread to the rest of the galaxy. This sparked an arms race that laid the groundwork for the traditional strategic premise of the game’s different factions fighting for galactic dominance.

But now there is a second playable human faction: the Terran Resistance. During the events of Galactic Civilization III, the Terran Alliance was weakened in a war with the Dread Lords, after which the Drinkingin and the Yoel defeated the humans all the way back to Earth. Although their homeland was protected by an impenetrable force field, the massive blockade confined humans there.Trapped Alliance Remnants external The Solar System then formed the Terran Resistance.

Despite sharing a common heritage, the two civilizations could easily clash because they are different political entities with their own agendas. The Terran Alliance aspires to return to the galaxy and focuses on exploration, while the Terran Resistance, scattered in space and forced to survive, is resourceful and creative.

The Resistance gains additional influence and control points each turn, and starts with some rare resources that can be traded, or give you a head start on complex structures. Alliances have immediate access to research-focused policy options and bonuses for voyages and diplomatic relations.

Obviously, the starting planet of the two civilizations is another point of divergence. While Earth is a more balanced homeworld, with plenty of hexagrams that provide rewards for all major resources, the Resistance’s Sanctuary is more geared toward wealth and production.

Two Terran civilizations also have access to a unique command ship roster. The Terran Alliance’s fleet has plenty of utility and support, and is equipped with some high-performance capital ships. On the other hand, the Resistance is more capable of holding its own in direct combat.

  • Australia – This medium ship has moderate damage and decent defense, and its sensor range has improved as you level up, making it an excellent scout.
  • Pyxis 5 – Excellent medium ships, kinetic attack and movement points will become better as the level increases, and can defend against various types of damage.

  • Eridanza – The flagship of the Terran Resistance, this ship enhances the armor of the entire fleet and increases its beam attack when upgraded.

Terran Alliance Command Ship:

  • victory – Light attack ships with powerful missiles that get better over time and also repair the entire fleet each turn.
  • curiosity – A small scout ship that provides rewards for research when investigating anomalies.
  • will – A lightly armed ship that boosts support on nearby planets.
  • gaze – This moderately equipped medium ship enhances the beam attack power and shields of all ships in the fleet.
  • Hive One – This ship is lightly equipped due to its size, but facilitates the manufacture of nearby worlds and can repair 4HP per turn for all ships within its sphere of influence.
  • top notch – The pride of the Terran navy, it is equipped with some nice weapons and reduces the movement points of all enemy ships within range.
  • sickle – A heavy missile ship that deals damage to all enemy fleets within a one-block radius.

The only thing both factions have in common is their citizens. Whether they are members of the Resistance or the Alliance, Terrans are Terrans. In Galactic Civilization IV, Terran citizens are considered flexible and efficient, and generally have lower expectations than other species, which will affect their moodiness when imminent.

Whichever half of humanity you choose, you’ll get the work done for you as you forge a new path forward. Whoever you think is worthy of leading the Terran into the next era will need to contend with old enemies, as well as new ones like Arceans, Drath, and the menacing Festron.
