So far, Quint has come in several forms. The popular card game first appeared in The Witcher 3 as a mini-game you can play in various locations across the continent, while a full-fledged indie titled Gwent: The Witcher Card Game also launched in late 2018 . Now, it appears that fans are getting another product – this time a standalone single-player game, reportedly set to launch later in 2022.

That’s according to a report from IGN, which revealed that the new single-player Gwent game is codenamed Project Golden Nekker – an interesting tentative name since those pesky critters are hard-pressed to get the honor of being gilded in The Witcher 2 and 3 . The site reports that development of the game is currently being handled by the Gwent team at CD Projekt Red, and it sounds like it’s a different game than what players know. The site says it will offer a “fascinating single-player experience” unlike previous versions of Gwent.

It’s also apparently completely self-contained, meaning you can pick it up when it launches and start using it without owning any previous version of Gwent.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Gwent has seen a standalone single-player offshoot. Also in 2018, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales came out. An isometric role-playing game set a few years before the events of the first game in the Witcher series, it combines narrative-driven exploration with puzzle and card battle mechanics.

According to reports, the Golden Nekker project will be a completely different fish tank. “It’s not another wizarding story, but something different,” IGN quoted Gwent communications director Paweł Burza as explaining. “Our goal is to provide a captivating single-player game for players who prefer it rather than the competitive multiplayer Gwent.” The site also has a bunch of concept art in the gallery if you want to see what’s all about at this stage picture.

It appears that Project Golden Nekker has no release date other than sometime in 2022. However, as IGN has hinted, given the previous (and expected) release cadence of The Witcher game and Gwent, it could arrive in October of this year, though that’s just speculation for now.
