Discovered by TechPowerUp, RockIt Cool is one such company that specializes in these strip kits.it sells two deli and relid kit, designed to give you all the tools you need to DIY your CPU to all new temp lows. There are different options depending on the CPU you want to bust, with a gorgeous pure copper IHS replacement. There are even markings on the IHS to aid in the application of liquid metal, which makes this indeed rather risky upgrade as easy as possible.
But more importantly, they look awkward.
A small piece of metal that sits on top of the CPU gives an extra layer to the build, even if you can’t see it when it’s tucked away in the case, tucked under the cooler. Copper does a great job of dissipating heat, so it’s an excellent choice for a new CPU cover.
RockIt Cool claims it successfully lowered the operating temperature of the Intel Core i9 12900K by 15°C using one of its copper lids and thermal interface materials, but that seems a little too good to be true.
Customer reviews seem to be really impressive anyway, and the kits are relatively inexpensive, ranging from $19 to $80, depending on availability. Although as always, be careful. This process will void your warranty and may even damage your gear. It’s not a good idea to try this without realizing the possibility of failure.
While the focus for overclockers may be on 12th Gen Intel and AMD Ryzen kits, there are plenty of options for those not too cutting edge or looking to get the best benchmark scores from older hardware. RockIt Cool offers quite a few options for older chips dating back to 3rd and 4th generation Intel, which may be a safer option for beginners.
For those curious about overlocking, this is a great opportunity to trip and reload on an old chip.
