This guy built a cute PSP out of Lego and now we want a brick Steam deck
Valve’s new handheld gaming device, the highly sought-after Steam Deck, saw people scrambling to hold their place in the queue the moment it went live. Considering how much power is inside a small portable Linux PC, this isn’t a bad buy.
But for many, even the cheaper 64GB version will cost $399 to get it. Of course, an alternative to making a splash on the Steam deck is…build one out of LEGO bricks. Just follow the lead of a PSP-less legend who solved their lack of a Sony handheld gaming device by designing a LEGO version and submitting it to the company as a potential LEGO kit idea.
CBR caught our attention, and if you ask me, this Lego PSP designed by RevanBuilds is pretty accurate and quite cute, and building a Steam deck version can distract you from its lack, at least in the short term.
“I made this model because, as a kid, I always wanted a PSP, and I made one out of Lego,” laments the designer. Once built, RevanBuilds used computer software to refine the design, “with more precise parts and a few stickers”. If you print the stickers, if you decide to bring your LEGO Steam deck to the bar, it will probably have real stickers coming from afar.
The PSP’s edge design is a bit sharper than the Steam Deck, though, and it’ll be interesting to see someone try to recreate the ergonomic curves of Valve’s new handheld gaming device. It won’t be easy, that’s for sure.
By submitting designs like this to the LEGO Ideas program, potential designers not only have the opportunity to become LEGO designers, but if your design is approved for production, commission proceeds can help fund a real Steam deck.
What are you waiting for?
However, that doesn’t help it arrive any faster, although you’ll have a pretend Steam deck to play while you wait.
