This is the most brutal Wordle Whiff we’ve ever seen
The Wordle craze continues unabated, and while the words presented by online puzzle games are often recognizable and commonly used words, it seems to be getting a lot of people into trouble today.Among other things, this resulted in the most ridiculously sad miss we’ve ever seen, or even possible Check.
Here’s a spoiler for Wordle’s puzzle for January 31, 2022.
Puzzle solvers know that Wordle’s solution today is “LIGHT” – a very common word that everyone has heard of and probably even used every day. But the ending structure “GHT” or “IGHT” is very common. Assuming you know the last three or even the last four letters, you can still try different common words and guess wrong, as this unfortunate guy did:

Normally, we would attribute such an epic total miss to someone making a joke, but a look around Wordle Twitter today shows that this is not uncommon for today’s word. A lot of people have reported similar results, with multiple turnovers in a row, some of them narrowly taking a win from a defeat. It’s easy to waste guesswork on combinations of MIGHT, RIGHT, TIGHT, EIGHT, SIGHT, and FIGHT, etc. So it stands to reason that someone out there would be unfortunate enough to just keep smelling.
As some have pointed out, you can break this structure and guess a completely different word to match the missing letters. But this is not possible in hardmode, available through the options menu, which requires you to use all the letters you hit before. Even those who don’t play Hardmode might just play this rule with the honor system.
