Ukrainian game developers seek support after Russian invasion

This morning, after years of tension between the two countries, Russian armed forces invaded Ukraine. Details about exactly what happened on the ground remain shaky, with Ukrainian civilians terrified as violence continues after the Russian attack. Some Ukrainian game developers have taken to social media today for fans’ support.
“As of today, the Russian Federation has officially declared war on Ukraine,” STALKER developer GSC Game World said in a statement. tweet“Our nation wakes up to the sound of explosions and weapons firing, but is ready to defend its freedom and independence as it rains and ready for anything. The future is unknown, but we hope for the best, right We have full confidence in our armed forces and our belief in Ukraine.”

We are trying to stay safe, but this is war and there are no two solutions. We call on all to force Putin to withdraw from our land. We are a peaceful country, In the years since we gained independence, we have never attacked or threatened anyone. Our jobs will be affected and our lives may be disrupted as a result of this situation.”
Indie studio Vostok Games tweeted a picture of the Ukrainian flag.

Last week, Axios reported that many Ukrainian tech and game development offices were already working on plans to send employees out of the country in response to rising tensions. Metro developer 4A Games left Ukraine in 2014 to open a new office in Malta after Russia annexed Crimea.
