Valve has officially announced the Steam Deck release date

Valve has finally announced the release date for its handheld Steam Deck. Customers who pre-ordered Steam Decks with a deposit last summer will begin receiving invitations to complete their orders on February 25. The first Steam deck units will start shipping on February 28th.

Here’s how Valve says it works for customers who pre-ordered Steam decks last year. Sometime around February 25th, you’ll receive an order email from Valve inviting you to complete your Steam Deck purchase. From receiving this email, you will have three days to log in and order your Steam deck, and any pre-orders not completed during this time will be released and offered to the next person in the virtual queue.

Valve says invites will go out starting February 25 at 10AM PT/1PM ET/6PM GMT, and will be sent in the order they are received. You will only be able to order the Steam Deck model you pre-ordered – you cannot upgrade or downgrade to a different Steam Deck.

However, your deposit will of course be included in your total cost at checkout, and Valve says shipping is included in the price on the Steam platform. Valve also said that it will be sending the review unit to the press “soon,” so hopefully we’ll have a chance to finish the review unit before the Steam Deck release date.
