Valve Moves Some Steam Deck Pre-Orders “After Q3”

Valve may launch Steam Decks soon, but it will be a while before the company clears its pre-order backlog and improves the immediate availability of its handheld gaming PC. Luckily for you, Valve heard your monkey paw wishes and finally “clearer” when you’ll receive your deck, moving the release date from an indeterminate window to …another indeterminate window.

In a news article for the Steam community, Valve said it now “clears more [its] Longer-term production plans”, which means users can now see if their pre-orders are within Q3’s order availability. Unfortunately for some, it also means you’ll know if your pre-orders are in Landing in the distant future window “after the third quarter”.

The company says it’s “working hard to increase the number of Steam decks [it] Production is available this year”, so don’t be discouraged by having to wait for your pre-order, as there’s a good chance it’ll be turned up. Valve also plans to launch the device in more countries, such as Japan, by the end of the year.

While it’s undoubtedly exciting to be the first to touch the Steam deck, going a step further gives Valve time to iron out some of the device’s initial issues. For example, some users were reported to be suffering from stick drift, but this was quickly fixed with a Steam Deck update.

Plus, it might be worth waiting for the official Steam Deck dock to pop up this spring, which should be easier to use in desktop mode than we found in our Steam Deck review. Now, it may be helpful to remember the following quote from philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau: “Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.”
