Vampire Survivor gets new player count record ahead of next stage

It may be a casual indie game or a retro game, but Vampire Survivor has been hugely popular since its December release on Steam. In fact, it just set a new player count record – just ahead of the release of Vampire Survivors patch 0.2.13 and an all-new phase later this week.

Vampire Survivors is a cheap indie game that’s only been out in Steam early access for a few months, but it’s already proven itself to be one of the best vampire games on PC. The bullet hell shooter gives the player control over the character’s movement, but not fire, so it’s not so much an attack button as it’s about staying alive.

The “gothic horror casual game” quickly became a hit with developer Poncle, and Vampire Survivors now has a new peak concurrent player count on Steam – 77,061, an increase of around 6,000 players from the previous record a week ago. indicates that it could be higher.

To put that in perspective, the extremely expensive RPG Cyberpunk 2077 boasted its best player count in a year yesterday – that’s 48,202, which is 30k less than Vampire Survivor.

That record was broken with the release of Patch 0.2.13 and the release of new characters, although Poncle also announced that the more impressive 0.3.0 update will be released next week – which will include “a new game mechanic and A new stage, complete with new layouts and enemies”.

It’s worth watching, as this could mean that player count records will be broken again once more roguelite games become available.
