It seems like every day now, a celebrity or another announces an “exciting” partnership with an NFT enterprise. Whether it’s owning a monkey’s jpeg or actively minting a set of tokens, there are plenty of celebrities chasing crypto gaming even in the gaming world.

Voice actor Troy Baker, best known for playing Joel in The Last of Us, Booker in Bioshock Infinite and Sam in Uncharted 4, recently tweeted The post stated that he is participating in the NFT project. After backlash and “feedback”, he has now announced that he will not be attending at all.

On Twitter, the voice actor announced that he will no longer be a supporter of VoiceVerseNFT. He tweeted: “Thank you all for your feedback and patience. After much deliberation, I have decided not to continue my partnership with VoiceVerseNFT. Intentions aside, I hear your voices, and am willing to settle for just by disagreeing. Apologise for accusing anyone of ‘hatred’ with me.”

To put it mildly, the initial announcement was unpopular. Not only was this an NFT partnership, but the specific wording of the tweet was seen as inflammatory. He signed off on the original tweet about the NFT project: “We all have a story to tell. You can hate. Or you can create. What would it be?” That’s what the “hate” comment was referring to.

It’s not just wider internet feedback that’s changing the minds of voice actors. Troy joins other industry professionals on a podcast called “Play, Watch, Listen.” Mike Bithell, Alanah Pearce and Austin Wintory. The rest of the team is anti-NFT, and shortly after Troy tweeted, there was a podcast dedicated to talking about NFTs with Troy. This is probably just a small group of people trying to discuss the subject with Baker.

While the voice actor has now reconsidered his partnership, there are still other people and companies jumping into NFTs head on, like Team 17’s Worms.
