I had a chance to play the first episode of We Are OFK, which introduced all four members of the group, but mainly focused on Itumi’s perspective. It’s a very dialogue-driven opener, forgoing blunt presentations in order to drive the action at a convincing pace. I managed to capture the characteristic snippets that briefly appeared at the bottom of the old phone’s text chain before the new message pushed them out of frame, and the dialogue options provided insight into how the characters felt, no matter which option I chose – all rather than detailing them Backstory, it felt like a more natural way to introduce these characters to me. I was rewarded for my attention and not just the details that were instilled in me.

By the end of this episode’s 50-minute run time, I was hooked and longing for more. Episode 1 feels like a great TV pilot, which makes sense considering we’re OFK writer Claire Jia’s history writing for TV — previously, she’s written for Awkwafina Is Nora and Justin from Queens Get off the boat.

In the continuation of this TV connection, We Are OFK was released like a TV series. When the game launches, players will only have access to Chapter 1, and each subsequent chapter will be released on a weekly basis. Even if you don’t have any connection to the music industry and don’t know how it works – like me – the story of We Are OFK is still approachable. Its plot is built around easy-to-understand themes, no matter your passion. As mentioned earlier, episode 1 focuses on Itumi, but you also occasionally jump into Luca’s perspective. According to Team OFK, each episode will focus on a different member of the band, but you’ll periodically switch between multiple characters and sometimes even engage in a conversation from both characters’ perspectives.

“We switch perspectives every episode,” Jia said. “Each episode happens chronologically, but we want you to see the events happen through different people’s eyes, even if it’s a game, it’s a series, and we like the idea of ​​this sort of TV-style release structure for you Playing an episode, then waiting for the next episode.
