WoW accidentally told account sharer they had been banned by RMT
Blizzard has confirmed that there has been a wave of bans ahead of World of Warcraft’s End of Eternity update. While account sharing was the main target of the ban frenzy, there was some confusion as some players “wrongly” received real money trading ban notices.
After some confusion on Reddit and WoW’s forums, a Blizzard customer support employee named Orlyia confirmed that the wave of bans came out yesterday (February 21). However, there has been some confusion. “Unfortunately, some people were initially notified of the RMT by mistake,” they said. “The second they will receive will be the one applied. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused. As others have mentioned, this action is not necessarily from recent activity. The action is reviewed and you need to file an appeal ticket.”
Responding to players’ questions about the separate wave of bans on account sharing, Orlyia shared that, from their understanding, the offense is Actually The main driving force behind the ban frenzy that resulted in various false RMT notifications.
World of Warcraft’s patch 9.2 — the end of eternity, if you like it — is rolling out in the US today and in Europe tomorrow.
