Yakuza on PC has sold about 2.8 million copies

Sega revealed at a recent management meeting that the Yakuza series on PC-including the Kiwami spin-off and the recent RPG Yakuza: Like A Dragon-has “sales very strong”, with total sales around 2.8 million units worldwide.

It took a long time for the Yakuza series to finally be ported to the PC, because traditionally every game has only a PlayStation version-and in many cases, it is also a Japanese-only version. For example, Yakuza 3 was released on PS3 in Japan in 2009, and it will not land on PC in Yakuza Remastered Collection until 2021.

Nevertheless, things are slowly changing, with the Western version of Yakuza: Like A Dragon will be released on all platforms (including PC) at the same time by the end of 2020. According to SEGA and the current publisher, its “strong performance” on PC was reported in a management meeting (via Yakuza fan site Tojo Dojo) that the entire Yakuza series sold “very strong” on PC.

Specifically, SEGA stated that the entire Yakuza series-including the main game, Kiwami game and Like A Dragon-has “global sales of approximately 2.8 million units.” Sega is also satisfied that the PC versions of these games allow them to reach more users and “extend the product life cycle of the gangster series” sales.

Taking into account these sales data and the warm welcome to “The Underworld: Like a Dragon on PC”, the next “Underworld” game is likely to be released on PC at the same time as the host again.
