Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Master is already the fifth-ranked game on Steam

Fans of Yu-Gi-Oh have been asking for a modern game that replicates the full TCG experience, and now that Yu-Gi-Oh: Master Duel is out, those fans are actively showing up. The free-to-play card game hit PlayStation, Switch, Xbox, and PC earlier today, and it’s already one of the biggest games on Steam.
As shown on SteamDB, the PC version of Yu-Gi-Oh: Master Duel hit a peak concurrent player count of 159,158 earlier today. This is the fifth-highest peak on Steam today, after Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, and Apex Legends. This means Yu-Gi-Oh outperforms Grand Theft Auto V, Monster Hunter Rise, New World, Destiny 2, and more.
Today’s release was completely unexpected, so there weren’t any critics to comment – they had something to say so early anyway since this is an online-centric game – but early Steam user reviews were ‘very positive’ . Some players are concerned about the monetization of free-to-play games, but it remains to be seen how this compares to other digital TCGs in the long run.
