Lost Ark has become a huge hit, and it’s not even free

After propelling its in-house developer MMORPG New World to the top of the Steam charts last year, Amazon Games intends to expand its online RPG portfolio with the release of a Western version of Lost Ark. Originally released in Korea in 2019, Lost Ark has been picking up a lot of pre-release hype, but on day one it’s already orders of magnitude bigger than we expected.

As shown on SteamDB, Lost Ark has reached a peak concurrent player of 532,476. That makes it the second-largest game on Steam right now, behind Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and the sixth-best Steam game of all time, behind Amazon’s own New World.

One of the most impressive things about this number is that Lost Ark isn’t even free yet. Currently, you can only join by purchasing the Founder’s Pack, which starts at $14.99/£13.20/€14.99. The full free-to-play version won’t be released until Friday, February 11, so the player count will definitely get bigger from here.

Lost Ark was equally popular on Twitch, reaching 1.2 million viewers at its peak. That number was helped in part by the Twitch Drops program, but it was an impressive performance anyway.
